2) L = 2W + 6

substitute eq(2) into eq(1):

2(2W + 6) + 2W = 228

4W + 12 + 2W - 228

6W + 12 = 228

6W = 216

W = 36 ft

using eq(2):

L = 2(36) + 6

 L = 78 ft

check using eq(1):

2(78) + 2(36) = 228

228 = 228

The court is 36ft wide and 78ft long.
