If the number of dimes is d then the number of quarters is d+8.

The value of the coins is 10d+25(d+8)=550 working in cents, because a dime is 10c and a quarter 25c.

So 10d+25d+200=550. 35d=350 so d=10.

There are (10 dimes and) 18 quarters.
