n=number of nickels, q=number of quarters.

n+q=17, n=17-q,

0.05n+0.25q=2.05,

0.05(17-q)+0.25q=2.05,

0.85-0.05q+0.25q=2.05,

0.20q=2.05-0.85=1.20,

q=1.20/0.20=6, so n=17-6=11.

11 nickels=$0.55, 6 quarters=$1.50, total $2.05.
