If Z=-1.16 I presume you're referring to a Z-score in statistics in relation to a normal distribution. Z=-1.16 means that you have a value X which is 1.16 standard deviations below the mean. Z=1.16 would correspond to a value X which is 1.16 standard deviations above the mean.

Normal distribution tables often only give positive Z-scores, but, because the normal distribution is symmetrical about the mean (the two halves of the normal distribution graph are reflections of one another), the area to the right of Z=1.16 has the same size as the area to the left of Z=-1.16. The tables give the probability or area to the left of the Z-score. The total area under the normal distribution graph is 1, so all we have to do is to subtract from 1 the number corresponding to Z=1.16 from tables. The tables give us 0.877 (approx) when Z=1.16. Therefore the area to the right of this is 1-0.877=0.123. This is the area to the left of Z=-1.16. The answer is therefore 0.123 (which is a probability of 12.3%).
