Draw the graphs of y=log(3-x) and the line y=4. Where the line meets the curve gives the x value which is the solution. Approximately x=-51.6 if the base of the logarithm is e (natural logarithm). If the base is 10, then x=-9997, which may be tricky to represent graphically.
