All integers are whole numbers, but zero is an integer and it could be said that it is not a whole number (that is, it's not the whole of anything) because it represents nothing. So answer may be zero.
Whole numbers are often called natural numbers, and they are all positive integers, excluding zero. So no negative integers can be natural numbers. In other words, 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. are natural numbers and whole numbers and integers; but 0, -1, -2, -3, -4, etc. are integers but are not natural numbers.
