line 1: 7x +9y=17

line 2: 9x +6y=23, or 13.5x +9y=34.5

line2 - line1=(13.5x -7x) + (9y-9y)=34.5 -17

6.5x=17.5

x=17.5/6.5=2.6923076

from line1...y=(17-7x)/9

=(17-18.846153)/9...-1.846153/9= -0.2051281
