1) q + d + n  = 63

2) d = q + 3

3) n = q - 6

substituting eqs(2) and(3) into eq(1):

q + (q + 3) + (q - 6) = 63

3q -3 = 63

3q = 66

q = 22

using eq(2);

d = 22 + 3 = 25

using eq(3):

n = 22 - 6 = 16

check using eq(1):

22 + 25 + 16 = 63

63 = 63

He has 22 quarters, 25 dimes and 16 nickels.
