My best guess is to find one direction.

One triphe walked at 3 Mph and the other at 4Mph.

So what i did was divide 3/7 (i chose 7 because that is the total mph)

(3/7)*(14/3) (which is 4 hours and 40 minutes converted into a fraction, it's really 4 and 2/3 but converting it is easier).

The answer to that is 2. So his first trip took him 2 hours out of the 4 hours and 40 minutes. 2 hours times 3 mph= 6. and thats the answer!

8 miles. Imagine travelling at 1 mph, it would take you 8 hours. At 2 mph, it would take you half the time (4 hours), 3 mph = a third, 4 mph = a quarter, 5 mph = a fifth, and so on. Therefore, using this principle, 3 mph = 2 hours and forty minutes, added to 4 mph = 2 hours, giving you your 4 hours and 40 minutes.
