Since 45=9×5 we can do the sum in pieces.

First multiply £0.52 by 9=£4.68 then by 5: 5×4.68=£23.40 (you can do this by multiplying by 10=£46.80 and dividing by 2=£23.40). So the total cost is £23.40.
