Let the number of adults be a and the number of children be c, so a+c=166.

Total cost is 606=5a+3c=5a+3(166-a)=5a+498-3a=2a+498.

So, 2a=606-498=108 and a=54 so c=166-54=112.

Therefore 54 adults and 112 children went to the zoo.
