Let a be the number of adult tickets, c be the number of child tickets.

1) 3a = c

2) 7a + 3c = 6000

substitute eq(1) into eq(2):

7a +3(3a) = 6000

7a + 9a = 6000

16a = 6000

a = 6000/16 = 375

using eq(1):

3(375) = c

c = 1125

check using eq(2):

7(375) + 3(1125) = 6000

2625 + 3375 = 6000

6000 = 6000

There are 1125 childrens tickets and 375 adult tickets, a total of 1500 tickets.
