Problem: what was the strategy used to arrive at the solution
what is the strategy used to arrive at the solution for largest product using numbers once 986421
related to an answer for: 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 9, make the maximum product. Use each digit only once: __ __ __ x __ __ __

We want the hundreds positions to be the largest possible,
so 9 and 8 belong there.
9 __ __ x 8 __ __

Next, we want each number multiplied by the largest tens
values possible, so 4 and 6 belong in those positions. Also,
we want the 900 number to be multiplied by the larger tens
value, so the 6 belongs in the tens position of the 800 number.

9 4 __ x 8 6 __

Finally, with only 1 and 2 left, we want the 900 number
multiplied by 2 rather than by 1. So, the 2 go into
the units position of the 800 number.

9 4 1 x 8 6 2

941 x 862 = 811,142
