The opposite of a number has the same size or magnitude of the number but it has opposite sign. So that means a number and its opposite add up to zero.

3 and -3 are opposites

7.5 and -7.5 are opposites

-2 2/3 and 2 2/3 are opposites

Their sums are all zero.
