3x+3 = 2X-5   subtract the number 3 from both sides

3x=2x-5-3  This leaves only an x term on the left side.  next subtract 2x from both sides

3x - 2x = -5 -3   Finish the arithmetic on both sides of the equation

x = -8  Done!
