e/7 - 3 = -5     Begin to isolate the e by adding 3 to both sides.

      +3   +3  

      e/7 = -2     Next, since e/7 is a division problem in this case, multiply both sides by 7.

7* e/7 = -2 * 7  The 7's on the left cancel leave -2 * 7 on the right hand side.  Therefore,

        e = -14
