( e^x - e^-x) / 2 = 3

e^x - e^-x = 6

(e^x)^2 - 1 = 6e^x

(e^x)^2 - 6e^x - 1 = 0

(e^x - 3)(e^x + 2) = 0

e^x = 3   or   e^x = -2

e^x can't ever be negative, so e^x = -2 never happens

e^x = 3

ln(e^x) = ln(3)

x = ln(3)
