kitc = bath + 5

kitc + bath = 26

bath + bath + 5 = 26

2bath = 21 ⇒ bath = 21/2 =10.5 billion

kitc = 10.5 + 5 = 15.5 billion

10.5 + 15.5 = 26 billion

If Americans spent $26 billion to remodel kitchens and bathroom. They spent $5 billion more on kitchens than bathrooms. How much was spent on each?

K + B = 26

K = B + 5

substitute the second eqution into the first in place of K and solve for B

(B+5) +B = 26

2B +5 = 26

2B = 26-5

2B = 21

B = 21/2 = 10.5 billion dollars

Now place the found bathroom value back in and solve for Kitchens

K = B + 5

K = 10.5 + 5

K = 15.5 billion dollars

check

K + B = 26

15.5 + 10.5 = 26
