There's a common factor 3 which cancels out during the division, so we can start by dividing the dividend and divisor by 3: (x3+3x2-7x-12)/(x+4).

Use synthetic division:

-4 | 1  3 -7  -12

      1 -4  4 | 12

      1 -1 -3 |   0 remainder

Quotient=x2-x-3.
