To draw this line, find the intercepts (where the line intersects the two axes).

When x=0 (y-axis), 5y=-4, so y=-⅘; when y=0 (x-axis), 2x=-4, x=-4/2=-2.

Mark -⅘ on the y-axis and -2 on the x-axis. Draw a line through these two points. Every point on the line is a solution to the equation 2x+5y=-4. For example, when y=-2, 2x-10=-4, 2x=6, so x=3. The point (3,-2) lies on the line. Negative x numbers are to the left of the origin (where the axes meet) and negative y numbers are below the origin; so y=-2 is 2 units below the origin on the y-axis, and x=-2 is 2 units to the left of the origin on the x-axis.
