Given -12x - 6y = 24

Solve for y by first adding 12x to both sides to get

-6y = 12x + 24

Now divide both sides by -6 to get

y = (12x + 24)/-6 or

y = -2x - 4 which is in the form y = mx + b where

the slope m = -2 and the y-intercept b = -4
