(x2+x-17)/(x-4)=(x+5)+3/(x-4).

CHECK: (x+5)+3/(x-4)=[(x+5)(x-4)+3]/(x-4)=

(x2+x-20+3)/(x-4)=(x2+x-17)/(x-4)✔️

Synthetic division:
