How do I solve the word problem below?

This was a word problem: The sum of 2 numbers is 27. 1/2 of the first number + 1/3 of the second number is 11. Find the numbers.

x+y=27....y=27-x

(x/2) +(y/3)=11

become 3x+2y=66

3x +2*(27-x)=66

3x-2x+54=66

x=66-54=12

y=27-x=27-12=15
