1).  2x - 6y = 3

2).  4x + 9y = -1to use elimination we need to get one term to dissappear.  I see that if we multiply the 1) by a -2 this will happen.

(-2) * 1).

-4x + 12y = -6

4x + 9y = -1          add them together.

21y = -7

y = -7/21 = -1/3

plug into 2). to get x.

4x + 9(-1/3) = -1

4x = -1 - 3

4x = -4

x = -1
