The sum of two numbers is 35.The sum of the smaller and 5 times the larger is 139.Find the numbers.

1st part. 
x+y=35

2nd part
5x+y=139

Do elimination. 

(-1)(x+y=35)
-x-y=-35

Add both equations together

4x=104

Divide

X=26

Put x in for the first equation

26+y=35
y=35-26
y=9
