the difference between two numbers is 16.Three times the larger number is nine times the smaller.What are the numbers?

 

B = Big number

S= Small number

B - S = 16 call this eq1

3B = 9S

B = 3S call this eq2

substitute B in eq1

3S - S = 16

2S = 16

 S = 8

then Sustitute S in eq2

B = 3S

B = 3(8)

B = 24
