Q(x) = 8x² - 9 , find Q(1/4)

To do this you simply replace every 'x' with '1/4'.

So, Q(1/4) = 8(1/4)² - 9

                 = 8(1/4²) - 9

                = 8(1/16) - 9

                = 8/16 - 9

                = 1/2 - 18/2

                = (1 - 18)/2

               = - 17/2
