Six less than twice a number is 10.

So lets call the 'number'  x

So we want twice this number,

So we want 2x,

Then we want 6 less than 2x,

So now we have 2x - 6

And this is all equal to 10,

So,    2x - 6 = 10

Now we can work out the value of x

Add 6 to both sides of the equation:

2x - 6 + 6 = 10 + 6

2x = 16

Divide both sides of the equation by 2:

(2x)/2 = 16/2

x = 8

So the number you wanted to find is 8                           smiley
