Eight ways:

ABLC, BALC, CABL, CBAL, CLAB, CLBA, LABC, LBAC

There are 24 ways for friends to sit together so I listed them all then removed those that neither began nor ended with Carol (C). Then I removed those that did not have A and B (Abby and Blake) together. That left me with the list shown above.
