C=A×D/A+12

where, C=.08 and A=5

0.08 = 5 * D/5 +12

=> 0.08 - 12 = D

=> D = - 11.92

The question is ambiguous. Should it be C=(A×D)/(A+12) or C=(A×D÷A)+12? I suspect it’s the first, because the A’s would just cancel out. So that’s 0.08=(5D)/17, 5D=1.36, D=1.36/5=0.272.
