The y intercept (when x=0) is -5. The equation can be written y=-3(x^2+2x+1)-2=-3(x+1)^2-2. When y=0, 3(x+1)^2=-2 or (x+1)^2=-2/3. Because there is no real square root of a negative number, there are no x intercepts, which means that the graph doesn't cut the x axis. The graph is a parabola like an inverted U. The quantity x+1 can be positive or negative but its square is always positive. x+1<0 when x<-1 and x+1>0 when x>-1, so the line x=-1 is the vertical line of symmetry with the vertex of the graph at x=-1, when y=-2, i.e., at point (-1,-2). There is a value of y for every value of x, but there are no values of x for y>-2 since this is the vertex. Every point on the curve is an ordered pair, and we've already identified two: (0,-5) and (-1,-2).
