If XY+YZ=XZ where X, Y and Z lie on the same line with Y between X and Z, then:

6b+8b=175,

14b=175,

b=175/14=(7×25)/(7×2)=25/2 because the 7s cancel out.

So b=25/2 or 12.5 or 12½.

XY=6b=6×25/2=3×25=75.

YZ=8b=8×25/2=4×25=100.
