Multiply each number by 30:

48, -20, -15, 45, -75.

Negative numbers are smaller than positive numbers so group them in order first:

-75, -20, -15 (the bigger the negative number appears to be, the smaller it actually is)

then the positives:

45, 48.

Put the lists together:

-75, -20, -15, 45, 48.

Now replace these with the original numbers:

-⁵⁄₂, -⅔, -0.5, 1.5, 1.6.

There are other ways to order these, but it’s important to group the negatives and positives separately, and order them separately—it makes the job easier.

For example, we could have started by isolating -⅔, -0.5 and -⁵⁄₂. Multiply these by 6 to convert them to whole numbers: -4, -3 and -15. Order them: -15, -4, -3. Put them back to their original form: -⁵⁄₂, -⅔, -0.5. And then work on the two positives by multiplying them by 10: 16, 15. Order them: 15, 16. Replace them: 1.5, 1.6. Then put the lists back together in order: negatives, positives.
