6m²-8m-12=0,

so 3m²-4m-6=0,

m²-(4/3)m-2=0, m²-(4/3)m=2,

m²-(4/3)m+4/9=2+4/9=22/9,

(m-⅔)²=22/9,

m-⅔=±√22/3,

m=⅔±√22/3=⅓(2±√22)=2.23 or -0.90 approx.

The quadratic formula gives the same result:

m=(4±√(4²+4×3×6))/6=(4±√(16+72))/6=

(4±√88)/6=(2±√22)/3.
