Do you mean 258÷8, 258÷6, 8÷258 or 6÷258?  Please clarify. 258÷8 means 258 divided by 8; but 8÷258 means 8 divided by 258.

I assume you mean 258÷6 or 258÷8 because 8÷258 would produce a fraction and I think you want a quotient and a remainder

Let’s do 258÷6 first.

6 ) 258 

    -120  20+

     138

    -120  20+

       18  

       18    3

         0   43 no remainder

Now, let’s do 258÷8:

8 ) 258

    -160  20+

      98

     -80  10+

      18

     -16    2+

       2   32 remainder 2

 

If it had been 256÷8 the answer would have been 32 with no remainder.
