You need to divide the denominator into the numerator. You write the numerator followed by a decimal point and then you can do the division. Treat the numerator as if it had no decimal point and keeping adding zeroes onto the end until you’ve completed the division. The decimal point in the numerator tells you by alignment where to put the decimal point in the quotient. The quotient is the fraction converted to decimal.

EXAMPLES

3/4=3.00/4=0.75.

5/7=5.00000/7=0.71428... which can be rounded up to 4 decimal places as 0.7143. This is in fact a recurring decimal and it doesn’t matter how many zeroes you keep adding, the division just keeps on with the same pattern of digits. In this case it’s 0.7142857142857...

4/9=0.44444....
