Hi guys, I have a-1/a - a/a-1 - 1/a^2-a   I factor out and find the LCD and I have a(-a+1)(a-1)-a-1 / a(a-1). After further factoring I get         (-a+2) / (a-1) as a final result. Apparently it should be 2 / 1-a Please help how do I get there? I don't know what am I doing wrong? Can you show me step by step?

I wouild never have been able to do this if you hadn't given the answerl. It can be very difficult to figure things out when you don't use brackets. I'm using brackets now to show what your expression should have been

(a - 1)/a - a/(a - 1) - 1/(a^2 - a)

Give them all the same denominator, viz. a(a-1). The expresion then becomes,

(a - 1)^2/{a(a - 1)} - a^2/{a(a - 1)} - 1/{a(a - 1)} =

{(a - 1)^2 - a^1 - 1)} / {a(a - 1)} =

{a^2 - 2a + 1 - a^2 - 1} / {a(a - 1)} =

{-2a} /{a(a - 1)} =

2/(1 - a)
