OK, let's do some maths on this.

twice our number, plus half of our number, plus a quater of our number, plus 1, the answer is 100​

now put N as the value of that number, then

twice N, plus half of N, plus a quater of N, plus 1, makes the answer equal to 100

now make an equation out of it.

2 * N  +  (1/2) * N  +  (1/4) * N  +  1  =  100

weite this more compactly as

2N + N/2 + N/4 + 1 = 100

Take out N as a common factor.

N(2 + 1/2 + 1/4) + 1 = 100

add up the numbers

N(2 3/4) = 99

N(11/4) = 99

N(1/4) = 9

N = 36
