If you're working only with whole numbers then 1*3 or 3*1 equal 3. But you can also have -1 times -3 or -3 times -1.

If you include fractions, you can have 2 times 1½, for example, or 4 times ¾. In fact there are an unlimited number of ways of getting 3 by multiplying two numbers together. It all depends on how far you want to go.
