need help in grade 8 question

Question

in 1st part i will make an circle of radius 5 cm and 8 cm

but what to do with remaining question , please help

This requires imagination. Get some ideas by looking around, or in magazines, or online. See how shapes are used, how colours are used. The letter O is a circle, the letter C can be a crescent (one circle overlapping another). If you decide on a logo you have the opportunity to make letters from geometrical shapes. The letter A or V is a type of triangle, for example. You could even use the letters in your own name, and you don't have to have all the letters the same size or in a line. Make up a fictitious company name or name of a store. You can place them on top of one another. You can use shades of the same colour to suggest shadow and three dimensions. You can cut out shapes from cardboard and experiment by arranging them in different ways. Let your imagination run wild!

Here is a simple idea. To draw it you need to draw a third circle (not shown) which ensures the tangents to each circle are accurately drawn. I call it BIFOCALS, because each circle "focuses" on the centre of the other. If you like it I can show you how to draw the tangents.

Here is the complete picture showing the scale and the positions of the circles, including the largest green circle of radius 10cm. The centres of the red and blue circles are 20cm apart.

The large green circle has its centre midway between the other two and it cuts them at the point of their tangents. So it's easy to draw the tangents. The green circle can then be erased just leaving the tangents accurately placed. You'll need a large sheet of paper (at least 33cm wide) if you draw the picture to actual size (the circle radii are 5cm and 8cm). The size of A3 paper is roughly 30cm by 42cm and would be suitable for your drawing.

Yes, you only need compasses and a straight edge, and, ideally, graph paper. And, yes, use the title BIFOCALS by all means.
