Question

13 baskets each contain 3 similar balls. The balls in the 1st basket are labelled as A1, B1 and C1.The ball in the 2nd basket are labelled as A2, B2 and C2. Those in the 3rd basket are labelled as A3, B3 and C3...those in the 13th basket are labelled as A13, B13 and C13. A ball is picked from each basket without replacing it. Give the sample space.

The sample space has 3^13=1,594,323 elements ranging from:

{A1 A2 A3 A4 A5 A6 A7 A8 A9 A10 A11 A12 A13} to:

{C1 C2 C3 C4 C5 C6 C7 C8 C9 C10 C11 C12 C13}

For example, with just two baskets we have 3^2 elements:

{A1 A2}, {A1 B2}, {A1 C2}, {B1 A2}, {B1 B2}, {B1 C2}, {C1 A2}, {C1 B2}, {C1 C2}
