Divide denominator and numerator by tan(X):

(1+tan(Y)cot(X))/(cot(X)-tan(Y)).

Now divide both by tan(Y):

(cot(Y)+cot(X))/(cot(X)cot(Y)-1)=(cot(X)+cot(Y))/(cot(X)cot(Y)-1).
