40/100=20/?; 40÷2=20; 100÷2=50; 20/50=40/100. Number of students=50.

Kendra should have divided the denominator by 2 (as well as the numerator), answer B.

20 students is 40% of 50. 40/100*50=4/10*50=2/5*50=2*10=20.
