 -2(2w-3)=w+1 

first multiply out -2,

-4w + 6 = w+ 1  now we have to combin like terms notice there is a w on both sides so you can either add 4w to both sides or subtract 1w from both sides, i will do it both ways:

6 = 5w + 1     or      -5w + 6 = 1          now you have to subtract 1 from both sides for the first one and subtract 6 from both sides on the second one 

5 = 5w or  -5w = -5  finally divide each side by 5, for the second one -5

in both ways you get w=1.
