(6x^2 +3x -5) - (4x^2 -2x +3)

distribute the - sign into the parentheses on the right

6x^2 +3x -5 -4x^2 +2x -3

combine the x^2 parts

2x^2 +3x -5 +2x -3

combine the x parts

2x^2 +5x -5 -3

combine the parts without an x

2x^2 +5 -8
