$0.40 per pound is 40 cents per pound or 40c for 16oz.
40c per 16oz is 40/16=5/2=2.5c per oz, so 6oz is 6*2.5c=15c or $0.15.
Or you could calculate 6/16*0.40=3/8 of $0.40=$0.15.
