Add 6 to each side: 3x=-3 and divide through by 3: x=-1.
Check it out treating negatives as steps backward and positives as steps forward.
6 steps back and 3 times one step back (=another 3 steps back) equals 9 steps back. Right!

Given -6+3x=-9

Add 6 on both side
3x=-9+6
3x=-3

Divide by 3
x=-1
