The logs are to the same base, so we can equate the log arguments: (x+1)^2=x^2-3. x^2+2x+1=x^2-3, so 2x+1=-3 and 2x=-4 so x=-2. Check: log((-2+1)^2)=log(1)=0; log(4-3)=log(1)=0, so both sides are zero.
