R-.14R-E=B   Solve for R

R=pay rate, .14R=Taxes, E=Expences, B=Ballance.

It's been 10 years since I've solved and equation like this and I don't remember how to deal with the rate times 14%.  I'm job hunting and I'm trying to figure out what hourly wage I should ask for and this equation seemed appropriate.

If the tax rate is 14% on wages then, before expenses, you take home R-0.14R=0.86R because 1-0.14=0.86 and R(1-0.14)=R-0.14R. So 0.86R-E=B, the balance after you deduct your expenses.
