Problem: mrs. reid brought 32 orange  and apple slices to her daughters soccer practice. there are three times as many orange slices as there are apple slices. How many of each kind did she bring?

Let n be the number of apple slices.

There are three times as many orange slices as apple slices.

Therefore number of orange slices is 3n.

So total number of slices altogether is n + 3n = 4n.

So, 4n = 32

Then n = 8

So, number of apple slices is n = 8

Number of orange slices is 3n = 24
